How utterly anticlimactic.

She had arrived here and made such a ruckus, and now she was leaving with nary a word.

Wasn’t that a little bit of irony.

There wasn’t a reason to continue on here. Everyone moved on, leaving her alone, the senor member of a base who didn’t even seem to faze anyone. She’d become one of those shadows again—there, but no one noticed. Yes, she liked the radio job, and the pay was good, but she could be making a little more freelancing if she wanted. She’d not say no to temporary contracts in the future, but now…it wasn’t worth it.

Her things were packed; those who remained close knew how to contact her. She decided she’d see the family, get Ru and Orion settled on the stead, and hide away someplace warm and sunny for a little while, and take things from there.

She took one look around, the days of lego forts and breakfast fortress were long gone, the memories replaying in her head as she visited each particular spot. All those involved were dead, gone, or moved on.

Move on. It was her time to move on as well. Something about those words had made it feel like a weight had been lifted. Maybe this was truly the right choice. She’d tried so hard to hold up the fort, but maybe that wasn’t for the best.

She headed to the old jeep and gave a one last look over her shoulder at the base. A wan smile. Had she been one for tears, perhaps a few would have been shed, but there was nothing.

Ret’uryce mhi…”She said softly. Perhaps we’ll meet again.

Perhaps they will.
